Any new mother will tell you most newborns do not sleep 8 or 9 hours. What are your expectations for sleep? How much sleep do you need to feel refreshed? How does our modern culture contribute to our inability to get the sleep we need?
Sleep is a basic human function essential to our well being yet over 20% of Americans suffer from insomnia each year. American doctors wrote over 56 million sleeping pill prescriptions in 2008 alone.
Small, slow, repeated physical movements can shift us from the active, waking state to one of profound physical and mental calm. In that tranquil state, if we need sleep we will fall asleep. Participants will learn simple, practical ways to enhance a more tranquil state relaxing your body and calming your mind, impacting the quality of daytime life as well as promoting a good night's sleep.
This course is based on the Feldenkrais Method and the innovative work of Feldenkrais Practitioner Michael Krugman, author of The Insomnia Solution: The Natural, Drug-Free Way to a Good Night's Sleep, and developer of the Sounder Sleep System ®.
Each class workshop draws from the variety of gentle, synchronized movements and breathing tailored to individual needs geared to help with insomnia and the daily stress of life.
We can have significant control over states of mind through voluntary motor centers.
